Skills Development for the Print and Packaging Industry

The Irish Printing Federation, in collaboration with the Design Print & Packaging Skillnet, is pleased to announce the return of the Print Media Technician Programme, commencing Autumn 2025. This initiative is part of a long-term commitment to developing the talent pipeline that will shape the future of Ireland’s print and packaging industry.

Whether your company specialises in litho, digital, large format, finishing, packaging, labels, or related services, this programme is designed to support skills growth on the production floor.


Programme Overview

  • Duration: 2 years
  • Delivery: Tutor-led, online sessions with practical workplace support
  • Access: 24/7 online Skills Hub
  • Accreditation: Recognised certification awarded on completion
  • Cost: €2,000 (heavily subsidised by DPP Skillnet)

Participants must be employees of Irish Printing Federation member companies. If you’re not yet a member, we’d be happy to provide details on how to join.


What to Expect

This programme is built around practical learning, designed for real production environments. Modules include:

  • Workplace practices in print
  • Pre-press, print & digital artwork
  • Managing print & digital printing machines
  • Operating print & digital finishing machines
  • Continuous improvement in print environments
  • Health and safety monitoring
  • Good manufacturing practice
  • Industry-led masterclasses for real-life context

Each trainee will be supported by an expert witness from their company and assessed through hands-on tasks, workbooks, and Q&A sessions, ensuring the skills gained are directly relevant to their role.
