Print Technician Programme

HE PRINT MEDIA TECHNICIAN PROGRAMME – SKILLS FOR THE PRINT AND PACKAGING INDUSTRY

This Programme is a Collaboration between the Irish Printing Federation and the Design Print & Packaging Skillnet to provide our Industry with a pathways programme to develop the human talent needed to drive our sector forward.

The Programme will be available to all Printing and related industries who are Irish Printing Federation Members. (If you are not already a member of the Federation details can be supplied )

Training will commence in September. This DPP Skillnet programme is cofunded by the Government of Ireland, the European Union, and network companies. 

The Course will

  • Run over 2 years.
  • Delivered through prominently on-line tutor led classes.
  • Working with the trainees and the companies.
  • Requiring involvement from an expert witness from each participating company.
  • Suitable for participant from all sectors of the industry (Litho, Digital, Finishing, Large Format, Packaging, Labels, Services).
  • Accreditation provided on completion of the course.

The course will be delivered in the following modules.

  • Understanding Workplace Practices in the Print environment.
  • Understanding Pre-press, Print & Digital Artwork.
  • Understanding how to manage Print & Digital Printing Machines.
  • Understanding how to manage Print & Digital Finishing Machines.
  • Understanding how to contribute to improving the effectiveness of the Print Company.
  • Understanding how to promote and monitor Health and Safety in the Print working environment.
  • Good Manufacture Practice.
  • Masterclasses to provide additional real-life experience and insights.
  • To obtain the qualification, candidates will undergo competence assessment using workbooks, written and verbal question-and-answer sessions. They will need to demonstrate how they apply their learning in their specific roles. Access to the Skills Hub, an online learning platform available 24/7, will further assist in achieving the qualification.

The main goal is for each company to provide training for specific jobs or machines at their own locations. The program aims to give each trainee a better understanding, context, and approaches to help them contribute more effectively in the production environment.

The programme is intended to provide the foundational knowledge required of a Print Media Technician. The ambition is that Further future training programme will be able to build on this to provide our industry with the skilled talent required for future success.

COST

The Programme is heavily subsidised by the Design Print & Packaging Skillnet. Participating companies should be members of the Irish Printing Federation
